The Town of Westport hadn’t purchased a pumper since 2001, since the town responds to generally 4000 calls for support per year, and the firefighters provide a wide range of services to the public they serve. It was time to add some additions to their fleet. After a competitive bid process KME was awarded the contract for one (1) pumper.

The main objective when designing the one (1) pumper was to determine the design and specification for the next generation Type one (1) pumper suitable for the future needs to deliver emergency services to the town. With help from the Bob Porter of Tri-State Fire Apparatus the Sales Representative Organization for KME in Connecticut a specification was drawn up. Bob personally assured the department that the truck would meet all the spec items from the start and KME would be able to make any changes they felt they may need along the way.
As the building process began Catherine Arthur was assigned as the Sales Engineer on the apparatus. Throughout the building process both Bob and Catherine was helpful and professional, keeping the needs of the department first. The engine was built exactly how they wanted it. It has been delivered and has been placed in service, the truck works exceptionally well. The department has just signed the paperwork for their second KME pumper, where the same engineering team will work on their truck and make sure it is built exactly the same as their first pumper purchased (Engine 4).
Chief Ackley stated “When spending tax dollars on significant purchases such as a pumper that will be in our inventory for 15 to 20 years you have to get it right, in working with Bob and Catherine and the employees of KME we got it right.”
