KME Apparatus in Action
“In the past the department has tried equipment from every major fire equipment manufacturer, and when you find a combination of honesty along with great custom equipment and service – you have to stay with the winner.”
– J.C. Wingate – Fire Chief

The City of Hoover has always placed the highest importance on public safety. The ability to have apparatus and personnel on the scene quickly has always been a priority. As the City has grown over the years, the fire department established plans and procedures to ensure their ability to continue prompt responses. This includes operating out of nine fire stations strategically located throughout the City. The Fire Department also demands that both their apparatus supplier and the trucks themselves are able to adjust to meet the needs of their growing community.

Being the sixth largest city in Alabama and having a strong commitment to excellence, several years ago, the City of Hoover implemented a plan to investigate and operate the best and latest equipment from all of the top fire apparatus manufacturers at the time. When all was compared, the City eventually developed a strong relationship with NAFECO (the KME sales representative organization in Alabama). What began in 1983 as loose equipment sales, turned into the purchase of their first KME fire apparatus. Now, 27 years later the department operates:

  • 8 – Triple Combination Pumpers
  • 2 – Quint 75’ Aerials and 1 – 100’ Ladder Company.
  • 1- Technical Heavy Rescue

The City of Hoover, KME and NAFECO are proud to say their entire firefighting fleet is built by KME Fire Apparatus.
